How to stop Cyberbullying

Tips to Stop Cyberbullying

Reposted from ConnectSafely.org
Don’t respond. If someone bullies you, remember that your reaction is usually exactly what the bully wants. It gives him or her power over you. Who wants to empower a bully?
Don’t retaliate. Getting back at the bully turns you into one and reinforces the bully’s behavior. Help avoid a whole cycle of aggression.
Save the evidence. The only good news about digital bullying is that the harassing messages can usually be captured, saved, and shown to someone who can help. You need to do this even if it’s minor stuff, in case things escalate.
Talk to a trusted adult. You deserve backup. It’s always good to involve a parent but – if you can’t – a school counselor usually knows how to help. Sometimes both are needed. If you’re really nervous about saying something, see if there’s a way to report the incident anonymously at school.
Block the bully. If the harassment’s coming in the form of instant messages, texts, or profile comments, do yourself a favor: Use preferences or privacy tools to block the person. If it’s in chat, leave the “room.”
Be civil. Even if you don’t like someone, it’s a good idea to be decent and not sink to the other person’s level. Also, research shows that gossiping about and trash talking others increases your risk of being bullied. Treat people the way you want to be treated.
Don’t be a bully. How would you feel if someone harassed you? You know the old saying about walking a mile in someone’s shoes; even a few seconds of thinking about how another person might feel can put a big damper on aggression. That’s needed in this world.
Be a friend, not a bystander. Watching or forwarding mean messages empowers bullies and hurts victims even more. If you can, tell bullies to stop or let them know harassment makes people look stupid and mean. It’s time to let bullies know their behavior is unacceptable – cruel abuse of fellow human beings. If you can’t stop the bully, at least try to help the victim and report the behavior.

Social Media Ethics

As we all know too well, most interactions and communication is done online using a wide variety of social networks. What may not be taken into consideration is the role ethics plays with online sharing and communication, or that there needs to be a place for ethics in social media.
There has been a transformation in communication because of social media.  Here are some changes that have taken place:
  • People have now become both the producer and consumer of information.
  • News can be shared instantly online before it even reaches the television.
  • The judgment of communication is both positively and negatively affected.
    • It is up to the reader to decide whether or not the information is true and credible. The reader must look at the context, channel, and author of the information.
  • Because more people communicate online, the value of face-to-face communication is lost. This has multiple affects on the way a message is received and interpreted.
  • People have the ability to filter out and choose the types of messages they want to receive and those they want nothing to do with.
Why do ethical principles need to be applied to social media?
Social media allows anyone to share basically anything online.  Within a business, it is their responsibility to build a positive identity for their brand. If policies are not put into place, employees could be free to share anything to anyone. The business needs to find the audience with whom they want to share information. Here are some guidelines a business should follow when communicating online:
  • Share information that will give your brand a positive image.
    • People want credible information, so give them that. This will build trust for your business, which can help increase leads and customers.
  • When sharing, be aware of others’ perspectives and opinions. Be open to what others have to say.
    • When you respond, be fair in what you say to create a social wellbeing for your business and customer relationships.
  • Be aware of who can see your information, what is being shared, and what is being said and shared about your business.
    • If something negative is being shared, analyze it for credibility. If it is credible, respond to it in a positive fashion to show that you care about what is said concerning your business, and that some type of action is being taken to improve.
  • Overall, a business should create a positive, credible online presence for both their own benefit and for the benefit of their customers. Think about the business brand and identity that you want to share and build upon.
What should be included in a social media policy?
The action of an employee’s online presence reflects on the business. When creating a policy, the behavior expectation of the employees needs to be addressed. What is expected of a business online, and even offline, should be mentioned to create an identity. Here are some other elements to include in a social media policy:
  • The purpose for social media in the business
  • Provide evidence of responsibility with sharing
  • Provide some business information for credibility and authenticity
  • Understand the audience with whom you are communicating
  • Provide credit to the right people or businesses
  • Protect confidentiality of the business
  • Provide value for the consumers and the business
  • Find a balance between social media and other work
Social media should be a part of a business and business should not entirely be social media. Communicating online is different from communicating in person or printed messages. Be aware of all the different aspects of social media – who sees your message, who is sharing messages and what are they sharing. Take responsibility for any online behaviors – positive and negative – and understand the logic behind having an online presence.

Main components to keep an eye on when buying laptop

Here are the main components to keep an eye on.
  • CPU: The "brains" of your computer, the processor has a huge influence on performance, but depending on what you want to do, even the least-expensive model may be good enough. Here's a rundown.
    • Intel Core i5: If you're looking for a mainstream laptop with the best combination of price and performance, get one with an Intel Core i5 CPU. Models that end in U (ex: Core i5-7200U) are the most common.  Those with the a Y in the name are low power and have worse performance while models with an HQ offer four cores. Intel's latest-generation, "Kaby Lake" CPUs have model numbers that begin with 7 (ex: Core i5-7300U) so look for those to get the best performance.
    • Intel Core i7: High-end performance for gaming rigs and workstations. Models with numbers that end in HQ or K use higher wattage and have four cores, allowing for even faster gaming and productivity. There are also Core i7 Y series chips that have lower power and performance. Keep an eye out for CPUs that have a 7 in the model number (ex: Core i7-7820HQ) because they are part of Intel's latest, 7th Generation Core Series, and offer better performance.
    • Intel Core i3: Performance is just a step below Core i5 and so is the price. If you can possibly step up to a Core i5, we recommend it.
    • AMD A, FX or E Series: Found on low-cost laptops, AMD's processors -- the company calls them APUs rather than CPUs --  provide decent performance for the money that's good enough for web surfing, media viewing and productivity.
    • Intel Atom: Found on very low-cost laptops -- think $250 and under  -- Atom offers basic performance but more battery life than Celeron/Pentium.
    • Intel Pentium / Celeron: Common in sub $400 laptops, these chips are a little faster than Atom, but offer worse battery life. If you can pay more to get a Core i3 or i5, you'd be better off.
    • Intel Core m / Core i5 / i7 "Y Series" -- Low-power and low heat allow systems with these processors to go fanless. Performance is better than Celeron, but a notch below regular Core i5 U series.
    • Intel Xeon: Extremely powerful and expensive processors for large mobile workstations. If you do professional-grade engineering, 3D modeling or video editing, you might want a Xeon, but you won't get good battery life or a light laptop.

MORE: Which Laptop CPU is Right for You?
  • RAM: Some sub-$250 laptops come with only 2GB of RAM, but ideally you want at least 4GB on even a budget system and 8GB if you can spend just a little more. For most users, 16GB or more is overkill.
  • Storage Drive (aka Hard Drive): Even more important than the speed of your CPU is the performance of your storage drive. If you can afford it and don't need a ton of internal storage, get a laptop with a solid state drive (SSD) rather than a hard drive, because you'll see at least three times the speed and a much faster laptop overall.
Among SSDs, the newer PCIe x4 (aka NVME) units offer triple the speed of traditional SATA drives. Sub-$250 laptops use eMMC memory, which is technically solid-state but not faster than a mechanical hard drive.
  • Display: The more pixels you have, the more content you can fit on-screen, and the sharper it will look. Most budget and mainstream laptops have 1366 x 768 displays, but if you can afford it, we recommend paying extra for a panel that runs at 1920 x 1080, also known as full HD or 1080p. Some higher-end laptops have screens that are 2560 x 1600, 3200 x 1800 or even 3840 x 2160, which all look sharp but consume more power, lowering your battery life.
  • Touch Screen: If you're buying a regular clamshell laptop, rather than a 2-in-1, you won't get much benefit from a touch screen and you will get 1 to 3 hours less battery life. On 2-in-1s, touch screens come standard.
  • Graphics Chip: If you're not playing PC games, creating 3D objects or doing high-res video editing, an integrated graphics chip (one that shares system memory) will be fine. If you have any of the above needs, though, a discrete graphics processor from AMD or Nvidia is essential. As with CPUs, there are both high- and low-end graphics chips. Nvidia maintains a list of its graphics chips from low to high end, as does AMD.
  • DVD/Blu-ray Drives. Few laptops come with optical drives, because all software and movies are downloadable. However, if you really need to read / write discs and your laptop of choice doesn't come with a built-in DVD drive, you can always buy an external one that connects via USB for under $20.

TIPS TO BOOST YOUR ANDROID PHONE'S BATTERY LIFE

11 Tips to Boost Your Android Phone's Battery Life

1. See what's sucking the most juice. Navigate to Settings > Battery to see an organized breakdown of what's consuming your phone's battery. Applications and features will display in a descending list of battery hogs. If you see an application you barely use or a feature you never use, you'll want to uninstall the app or turn off the feature.
Android Battery Tips
2. Reduce email, Twitter, and Facebook polling. Set your various messaging apps to "manual" for the polling or refresh frequency, just as a test, and you'll instantly extend your device's battery life by a significant amount. Once you see what a difference that makes, try re-enabling just the most important ones, and possibly reducing their polling frequency in the process.
3. Turn unnecessary hardware radios off. It's great that today's phones have LTE, NFC, GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, but do you really need all five activated 24 hours per day? Android keeps location-based apps resident in the background, and the constant drain on your battery will become noticeable, fast. If your phone has a power control widget, you can use it to quickly turn on/off GPS (the largest power drain), NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and LTE. On stock Android, swipe down to bring up the Notification bar, and then tap the icon on the top right corner.
Android Battery Tips
4. Use the extra power saving mode if you have it. The aforementioned Galaxy S5 and HTC One (M8) both have Ultra Power Saving and Extreme Power Saving modes, respectively, that limits the phone to texting, phone calls, Web browsing, and Facebook. This can squeeze extra hours or even a day of standby time out of just a few remaining percentage points of battery.
5. Trim apps running in the background. From Settings > Apps, swipe to the left; you'll see a list of apps that are currently running. Tap on each one to see what they're for; you can stop any apps that you don't need running in the background all of the time.
Android Battery Tips
6. Dump unnecessary home screen widgets and live wallpaper. Just because they're sitting on the home screen, seemingly inactive, doesn't mean they're not consuming power. This goes for widgets that poll status updates in the background, as well as ones that just sit there but look pretty and animated—not to mention animated live wallpaper. (But don't dump everything, as part of what makes Android great are the home screen customizations; just remove the ones you don't use.)
7. Turn down the brightness and turn off Automatic Brightness. It's probably obvious at this point, but you'll be surprised by how much this one alone helps to improve battery life.
8. Update your apps. Applications often get updated to use less battery power, so you should make sure your apps are up to date. Even if you configured the phone for automatic updates, some apps still require that you manually install updates. Check for app updates in Google Play by hitting the menu key and going to My Apps.
9. Keep an eye on signal strength. If you're in an area with poor cellular coverage, the phone will work harder to latch onto a strong-enough signal. This has an adverse effect on battery life. There's not much you can do about this one, but keep in mind that this could be the culprit behind a seemingly weak battery; it's worth popping the phone into Airplane mode if you don't need data or voice calls.
10. Check the reviews. We conduct battery life tests on every single Android phone we review. Unsurprisingly, the results vary widely between handsets, even on the same network. When choosing a phone, make sure that real world talk time is sufficient. You can't go by what the manufacturer says; we see variances on the order of several hours of usage in both directions on a regular basis.
11. Buy a battery case or larger extended battery. Battery cases combine a hardware enclosure, which protects your phone, with an extended battery that can double your phone's endurance. You can find models compatible with popular Android phones from a variety of manufacturers, such as the Mophie Juice Pack and Incipio Offgrid Battery Backup Case (both for the Samsung Galaxy S4).

Disadvantages of using ear phones

If you listed the benefits of earphones, you could probably go on and on
. You can use them to listen to music while working out, doing chores
or even while waiting for an impossibly long bus ride to be over.
You can also use them to hear what's going on if your television
or computer's speakers are busted. However, no matter how
awesome or beneficial earphones may seem, they still have
 their downside.

  • Hearing Loss
One of the main side effects of listening to loud music is hearing
loss. According to Dr. Brian Fligor, the director of Diagnostic
Audiology at Boston Children's Hospital, people who listen to music
at volumes exceeding 90 decibels, can suffer temporary loss of hearing
. Sounds in this range can eventually cause permanent hearing loss,
especially to teenagers who wear their earphones for long periods
 of time.
  • Decibel Ranges
Decibels are the measurement of loudness. If you listen to music
at a restrained volume, then you don't have to worry. However,
if you listen to music at the highest volume possible might want to
consider the following warnings. If you listen to your music using
earphones at 85 decibels, you can get permanent hearing loss if you
listen up to eight hours a day. At 88 decibels, you can get the same
result at just four hours of listening time. Now for the painful truth,
you can lose your hearing in just 15 minutes if you listen at 100-105
 decibels.
  • Ear Infections
Since earphones are made for two ears, it is quite inevitable that
people share them. According to the Manchester Evening News
, regular use of earphones can enhance the growth of harmful
bacteria, and sharing or borrowing earphones may just cause
the transfer someone else's bacteria to your ears. Research leader,
Dr. Chiranjay Mukhopadhyay, advises everyone to avoid sharing
earphones. If it cannot be helped, sanitize them before using.

Tips and Warnings:
Do not use earphones that are inserted directly into your ear
canals because, even though they can make the music sound
better, they enhance the chances of hearing loss will also increase.
You should also try taking 5-minute breaks every hour. This
will help your ears recover from being bombarded by concentrated
sound waves. Last but not least, if you can use speakers at a
moderate level instead, then do so because they will disperse the
sound waves and not cause as much direct damage to your ear drums.

Hope this helps :)
Noise from Improper Use of In-Ear Headphones
 — Earbuds, Buds, Earphones — May Put Hearing at Risk
The iPod and things like it represent a major advance in personal
portable sound systems that can be conveniently worn for
extended periods. Included with the variety of sound systems
is the variety of amplification systems that come in all shapes
and sizes of headphones and earphones. These devices are
potentially dangerous because, if used improperly, they can
 cause permanent hearing loss.
Personal sound systems have become so overwhelmingly
popular it seems almost everywhere you go, you see people
of all ages tuned into what they want to hear and tuned out
 of the world around them.
That said, what is the future cost for the luxury we have today to
pump up the volume and listen to anything we want whenever
and wherever we go, for how ever long we choose? What is the cost to
the people that portable listening devices, especially in-ear headphones,
are most popular with; namely, our youth?
A leading cause of hearing impairments used to be excessive
noise exposure in the workplace, but today many young people
are losing their hearing at alarming rates due to excessive noise
 exposure from portable stereo earphones.

Nokia Announces New smartphone

Nokia CEO Rajeev Suri has announced the Finnish company's intention to return to the smartphone market in 2016. Speaking to Manager Magazin in Germany, the 47-year-old executive noted that Nokia could design the new handsets and then licence the designs and Nokia name to as yet un-named partner. Georgina Prodhan for Reuters:
"We will look for suitable partners," Rajeev Suri said in an interview published on Thursday. "Microsoft MSFT +0.31% makes mobile phones. We would simply design them and then make the brand name available to license."
The timing and the nature of the return of the former number one mobile phone manufacturer (...in the world) should come as no surprise to anyone paying attention to the details either the sale of Nokia's devices and services business to Microsoft or the release last year of the Nokia N1 tablet.
Nokia's Android-powered tablet was announced at the Slush conference in November 2014, and demonstrated Nokia's new retail model for hardware. The design was Nokia's own, and while it shipped with Android 5.0 Lollipop and support for Google GOOGL +0.43% Play, it was given a Finnish flavor through Nokia's 'Z Launcher' software.  Foxconn obtained the licence for the tablet's manufacturing, selling, shipping, and support.
A leaner Nokia had returned to the hardware market without the tricky issue of rebuilding a support network for the hardware, and Foxconn could make use of its own manufacturing knowledge and networks to ship the N1.
While there are no details on who would be the licence of the next Nokia smartphone (or acknowledgement that Nokia will in fact release such a handset), it makes sense for Suri and Nokia to adopt the same business model for any new handset.
